2021: Year in Review

2021 has been a wild ride. Another pandemic year has come and gone. In some ways, it feels like this year was never ending. January 2021 feels like ages ago, doesn’t it? That being said, wasn’t it just Labor Day? Where did the fall go?

Words like masks, hand sanitizer, and quarantine have become part of our vernacular. Putting on my mask before I leave in the morning has become an automatic part of my morning routine. In some ways, another pandemic year has made these protocols and unprecedented routines feel normal and expected.

There is a sense of unpredictability and anxiety as we head into the holidays as a new variant rapidly spreads. While unsettling to say the least, I’m doing my best to reflect on the good this year brought:

Vaccines: Thank you, science! Need I say more? Finishing my COVID-19 vaccine series and getting my booster this year has made me feel so much more at ease traveling around the city for in-home therapy. While precautions (e.g., masks) and hand-washing protocols are still in full force, I feel so fortunate to have received the vaccine.

Full Time: Up until the beginning of June, I was growing my private practice on a part-time basis. This meant working late into the evenings and on the weekends as I balanced my private practice with working two days per week at a local hospital. In June, I made the leap to full-time private practice! Providing home-based therapy allows me to connect and partner with families in ways I never imagined possible in traditional school or outpatient settings. Running a business is no joke. I’ve never worked harder, walked more, or so frequently yelled “hold the door” as I sprint for the subway. I’m challenged every day and learning to trust myself, take breaks, and celebrate the small wins.

Kids & Families: I work with some of the most dedicated kiddos and families. Every day, families welcome me into their homes with open arms and that is something I don’t take for granted. Because of my kids, my job doesn’t really feel like a job at all.

I’m looking ahead into 2022 with excitement, motivation, and hope for some more predictability. In the meantime, sending my love to you and yours this holiday season.

Thanks for being on this journey with me!
